GPS is known as the Global Positioning System (originally known as NAVSTAR GPS), and it is the only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System. It was developed by the United States Department of Defence.

To determine a precise location and direction of a receiver, the GPS system utilizes the 24 Medium Earth Orbit satellites constellations. These orbit satellites which are managed by United States Air Force 50th Space Wing, would transmite accurate microwave signals to the receiver.

The cost of managing these satellites are not cheap. They are estimated to about US750 million per year, which shall include the work of aging satellites replacement as well as research and development.
